Ironic little coda to this, Helena (because I think the same most days!): if he could read your mind, there would be no need for tears – because the connection would transcend speech and reach up into the higher spaces. It is the having to explain all the bloody time that’s so drag-some; it’s the wish to be understood so perfectly that the subtlest flutter of one’s heart is caught upon delicate wings and borne aloft to a better place that causes such desolation – because the reality is so painfully divided.
    Failing that, there is always the gift of raucous and bawdy laughter!
